Introduction of the Course

Admission and discharge of a patient is a multidisciplinary process. Admission to the hospital can be a major event in the life of the patient as well as the family members and the experience needs to be a positive one. This can happen only if the patient has an uneventful journey through the admission procedure. Similarly, discharge of a patient is another important step as it not only involves the patient leaving the hospital but also his/her continuity of treatment, getting back to the pre-illness state and the required patient and family education. Every healthcare professional should have sound knowledge regarding the admission and discharge process as efficiency and collaboration during these processes are critical to the patient care experience and the promotion of safe, high-quality care. 

Objectives:

At the end of the module the learner will be able to:

  • Demonstrate skills in carrying out the admission procedure effectively.
  • Apply the knowledge gained in coordinating services and providing comprehensive patient care. 
  • Demonstrate skills in carrying out the discharge procedure based on the hospital protocol.
